Salsa Music
Considered a descendent of the Cuban mambo, Salsa has it's roots in Cuba but is thought to have developed into its' present form in 1960's New York, although some scholars would argue it was born in southern Florida after  Cuban immigrants came over  and began using electric  instruments to develop the sound.  It is also believed that prior to being electrified, in it's acoutstic form it was known as "Son" music. Many musicians and  researchers alike would argue  that the term Salsa or "Latin Jazz" is more a concept than an actual type of music, and could be applied to a whole  range of cuban music.   Regardless, today salsa is played all over the world and is considered the  most popular of all  Latin music and dance forms.
