Amazon Music
The geographic range of Amazonian Music is massive, covering a large part of northern Brazil, south eastern Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and south central Venezuela. To date we have recorded two indigenous groups in Ecuador near the town of Puyo in the Pastaza province located in the south east part of the country.
The first are "Tucanes Amazónicos" from the Quichiua tribe, located about 30 kilometers east of Puyo in the small town of San Mariano on  the road to Arajuno. The songs have rhythms similar to Andean music but the instruments including guitars, violin, maracas and bomba drums give the music a decidedly different sound.
Exactly 60 kilometers south east of Puyo on the road to Macas you will find the "Jardín Botánico Jintim," an amazing collection of plants and wildlife run by a Shuar family. Shuar tribes are located in various areas throughout the upper Amazon basin of Ecuador.  The music is sparse,  many times consisting only of voice,  but with a haunting, mesmerizing quality.
