Nostalgia del Sur
from Lima, Peru is usually a duo consisting of Humberto Ramos Ferroa on
harp and Paulino Lopez Salazar on violin and voice, but for our
recordings we brought in the considerable talents of Oskar Rojas on
guitar and Pedro Diaz on Cajon to round out the group who play the
style of Huayno, a distinct genre from the highlands of Peru. The first
song we are featuring is entitled "Coca Quintuscha," a song
about a certain type of coca plant thought to have the biggest leaf of
all varieties of coca plants, sung in the indigenous Quichua language.
