Jardin Botanico Shuar
Luis Polyglot
San Agustin
The Botanical and Medicinal Gardens of the Shuar tribe is located 60 kilometers south-east of Puyo near the town of Macas in the upper Amazon Basin of Ecuador. Felipe, his wife Rosa and their children tend to the plants which cover approixmately hectares.
The Shuar use these plants to remedy many ailments as well as to create the powerful hallucinogen "Ayahuasca" used often in rituals. We were fortunate enough to film Felipe as he took us through his jungle garden and picked a variety of plants the family uses in everyday life, including those used in the Ayahuasca ceremonies.
