Cumbia Music
Considered the national dance along side vallenato, cumbia has its roots as a classic Colombian folk form. Typical instruments include percussion using different kinds of drums, güiro, claves and woodwind instruments. In the more modern version you will also find different drums, guitars, bass, flutes etc.
Considered an original mixture of two cultures: Amer-indians and African slaves of northern Colombia, Cumbia was practiced among the slaves in courtship rituals and later influenced by European instruments.
It has been noted that the Cumbia percussion is similar to that of a  "galloping three legged horse," and after listening to a few songs you may understand why!
