Joropo Music
Joropo is a very fast paced and sometimes complex musical style utilizing guitars, cuatros, bandolas and maracas for percussion. It is found mainly in  Venezuela and  Colombia folklore known as "música criolla" (creole music).
Also used as a term to describe a "party," Joropo ranges from a waltz like dance utilizing harps or "arpa llaneras"  to an incredibly fast paced and complex multi-stringed instrumental composition using polyrhythmic patterns often alternating between 3/4 and 6/8 tempos.
It's origins can be traced back to the "Los Llanos" or plains regions of Venezuela and Colombia where it is referred to as Llanera music.
The joropo style we've recorded so far is from a group of amazing college students from Merida, Venezuela.
